Draft. The operator’s name and contact details have not been filled in yet.
This page says what the site keeps about you, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read. If anything is unclear, write to [privacy contact email].
Who runs the site
[Operator name], in [country], runs My cat is cuter than yours and is responsible for your data. Questions and requests about your data go to [privacy contact email].
What we keep, and why
Without an account you can look at everything public, and you can judge matchups as a guest. For a guest we keep a random id in a cookie, the time of each vote, and a scrambled form of your network address. The scrambling cannot be undone without a key that stays on our server; we use it to stop one network from voting many times. A guest who has not voted for 45 days is forgotten.
With an account we keep your email address, your display name, a picture if you add one, and the time you joined. Your password is stored only as a hash, by our sign-in provider. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google and nothing else.
Your cats: name, birthday, breed, bio, photos, growth log entries, links to their accounts elsewhere, and their contest entries. Photos are resized when you upload them and all hidden information in the file, such as the place it was taken, is removed.
What you do: your votes and skips, the matchups you were shown, the cats you follow, reports you send, roadmap items you want, and the colour scheme you choose (kept in your browser only). We also keep a note of votes that were refused, for instance for voting too fast, to spot misuse.
Why: to run the contest fairly, to show you and others what is public, to keep the site safe, and to answer you when you write. We do not sell data, build profiles for advertising, or show adverts.
What is public
- Your display name and picture, beside your cats and on cards you choose to share.
- Your cats’ profiles, photos, growth logs, links, follower counts, contest entries and places in the top ten.
- A champion stays in the hall of fame as a saved copy of that week’s photo and profile, even after the cat or the account is deleted, unless you remove it (you can, on your account page).
- A judge card, if you share one: your name, how many matchups you judged that week, and the cat you picked most often. Never the list of votes.
Never public: your email address, who you voted for, what you skipped, whom you follow, what you reported, and places below the top ten.
Who else sees it
Admins of the site see email addresses when they look up an account, and see reports, including who sent them. They see this to keep the contest fair, and nothing is shared further.
We use these services to run the site. Each receives only what it needs:
- Supabase hosts the database, the photos and sign-in. Everything above is stored there.
- Vercel serves the site, and sees the requests your browser makes.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a guest is a person, on the vote screen only, and only before you start judging as a guest. It sees your browser and network address.
- Plausible counts page views and a few events such as “a vote was cast”, without cookies and without anything that identifies you.
- Sentry receives error reports when something breaks, without your email, your cookies, or what you typed.
- Our email provider sends sign-up confirmations and password resets to your address.
Cookies and storage in your browser
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in.
- A guest cookie, if you judge without an account, for 45 days.
- Your weight unit and colour choice, in your browser’s storage, never sent to us.
- No advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
How long we keep it
- Account, cats and photos: until you delete them.
- Originals you upload: deleted as soon as they are processed. One you chose but never saved is removed within a day.
- Guests: 45 days after the last vote.
- Votes, skips and reports: kept after the account is deleted, with your name removed, so that past results stay true and reviews keep their history.
- Champion copies: until you remove them.
- Error reports: 90 days at Sentry.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your name, picture, email and password on your account page.
- See every vote you cast under “My votes”. Share a week, or stop sharing it.
- Delete a photo, a cat, or your whole account yourself. Deletion is immediate.
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or to correct it, at [privacy contact email]. We answer within a month.
- If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Age
You must be at least 13 to make an account. If you believe a child younger than that has one, write to [privacy contact email] and we will delete it.
